Viceroy of the Province, through Her Majesty's

Consul at Canton

forwarded a statement

containing full particulars of the crimes of which these

men were accused.

This statement agreed with the information in

the hands of the Police. The Viceroy asked that these 40

men should be delivered up without

any other formality

than his request. This was

refused

and the Viceroy in

rendition of eight men

accused of murder and robbery within the dominions

of the Emperor of China.
